Dedication

My reflections primarily take place in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, but it feels essential to begin with the heart of my inspiration. My beloved wife and best friend, Kelly, departed this world on July 15, 2024, enveloped in the love of her family after bravely enduring a prolonged battle with cancer. Her journey began on her 50th birthday in 2020 when she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. She was a bright beacon to all who knew her. In 2023, despite numerous hospital stays, she remained a symbol of resilience and gratitude, illuminating the lives of countless caregivers and fellow patients with her genuine smile. This spirit of connection blossomed further with her hospice team, as she spent her final days surrounded by love and comfort in our home.

If you were fortunate enough to know Kelly, you would remember her smile that had the power to light up even the darkest rooms, a laugh that could add levity to any conversation, and the extraordinary ability to make everyone feel like her best friend. I find the strength to move forward each day, because that’s what she would want and gently urge from me. So my reflections are deeply rooted in her spirit and lovingly devoted to her.

I am forever grateful for the years we spent together. -Ken
